The grandfather clock downstairs had struck two. The chime echoed throughout the house, making the night and the darkness that seized the Victorian house seem grimmer and eerier. There was a shadow that shot across the window of the living room. The figure peeked out from behind the wall, and glanced into the room inside for a long while. Another shadow appeared next to it, and looked inside as well.
"This is the place?" whispered a shadow.
"Shh, quiet. Someone will hear." said the other. The other shadow lowered its voice and crouched down a little, whispering; "I haven't seen a house like this in years, must have been built the last century or something, eh Jason?"
The larger shadow clenched the other's arm, pulling him into the moonlight. They could at last see each others' faces.
"Listen now Mathis, our target is not the house. It's the person inside." growled Jason, pointing at the window. Mathis nodded, a wicked smile growing across his face. Jason smiled back, his eyes narrowing and his dark, greasy hair shining in the moonlight behind him, making him all the more menacing.
"Now, follow me." said Jason, covertly moving to the east side of the house. Their footsteps barely made a sound, and they moved quickly and smoothly. Jason moved against the wall, looking up at the window above him. Mathis went beside him.
"Alright, hand it to me," whispered Jason. Mathis reached into his coat pocket, from which he extracted a small bottle with several small, white capsules inside. Jason popped off the cap, and took one of them out. He held it up to the light, eyeing it wickedly.
"This, Mathis, I have showed you before."
"Codeine?" whispered Mathis. "Isn't that a pain killer?"
Jason nodded. "It is, and I've found that it can be used for more than that. What we'll do is put them in a drink, and they'll dissolve."
"So, to get revenge on Kaymen, we're going to kill his back pain?" said Mathis slowly.
Jason sighed, and mumbled to himself: "Uhh, Du Hurensohn
" His voice grew louder again, and faced Mathis. "No. There's a secret about Codeine." he leaned toward Mathis, whispering, "When it is overdosed, it makes one
different. In behavior."
Mathis's mouth formed a silent "Ohhh."
Jason peered back up at the window. Leaning against the wall was a white trellis covered in ivy. Jason's eyes trailed to the top, where it stopped directly beside the guestroom window. He found his footing through a hole, pulled himself up.
A hand clutched the top of the trellis, and he found that the window was cracked open. Slowly, persistently, he opened it further. He reached into his pocket, and pulled out a thin, white tube. He inserted four of the capsules, and aimed at the glass of water on the nightstand beside Kaymen's bed. Kaymen lay on his side, his back facing Jason.
And then he was stopped by something; a sudden torrent in his head calling attention to memories of the war, triggered by the sight of the pilot.
"What are you waiting for, Jason?" whispered Mathis bitterly. Jason turned his attention to Mathis, then back at Kaymen. He shook his head twice, brought the tube to his mouth, and huffed a hard breath, sending one of the four capsules shooting though the air. It dropped into the glass with a soft chink, making Kaymen shuffle in his sleep and groan softly, rolling over to face Jason. Jason aimed again, and did the same to the last three capsules.
As soon as the four capsules had dissolved into the water, Jason climbed back down the trellis, hitting the ground softly.
"They're in?" said Mathis softly.
"They're in. He will sleep longer tonight, and wake up tainted." said Jason, slipping the bottle back into his pocket.
"Perfect." said Mathis, following Jason back around the house.
They had parked on an isolated corner, intentionally out of sight of Laurent and Carissa's. Jason jumped into the driver's seat, followed by Mathis in the passenger's seat.
"Damn, this is one queer city. Driving on the wrong side of the road... " said Jason, his voice drifting off on an angry note. He started up the car.
"Doesn't matter now. Everyone's asleep, and nobody is outside. Just drive." said Mathis, yawning. Jason drove carelessly through the city, scanning the streets for anyone that might be suspicious. Luckily for them, the streets were completely deserted. The only light in the city was the streetlights; dim an opaque, but enough to light their way.
Jason pulled into an alley, which was in the northern half of the city, which seemed to be less populated. To their luck, both of the buildings that made up the alleyway were either being renovated, or were abandoned. Jason and Mathis got out of the car, and came up to a large wooden trap door. Jason opened it, and the two started down the stairs, closing the door behind them.
There was an underground hallway that started after the stairs ended, and went for what looked like miles. The hallway was dimly lit. Jason and Mathis walked down it for a long while, until they came to a room in which three men, all smoking cigarettes, sat inside. The room was also dimly lit, and there was a poster upon the wall; Hitler holding a Nazi German flag. The text under it read; Es lebe Deutschland!
"Jay, Mathis. You're back." said one of them with a cigarette still hanging out of his mouth. His accent was thick, his hair short and brown.
"It's about time." said another, pulling his cigarette out of his mouth. He was the largest of the group; he was very muscular, and had a deep, threatening voice.
"Is Desdemona taken care of?" asked the third one. He was the thinnest, and had scraggily short blonde hair and a rough voice as if he had been smoking all his life.
"For now. It'll take a few more doses 'till he won't even be Kaymen anymore." said Jason, taking a pipe out of his pocket and lighting it.
"Wouldn't it be easier just to shoot the man instead?" objected the thin blonde man-Lukas.
"I suppose, but let's have a little fun with him first. Make him suffer a little." said Jason.
"Sounds a bit harsh
" mumbled Benjamin, his cigarette still in his mouth. Jason darted a hard glance at him. He yanked the cigarette out of Benjamin's mouth.
"Harsh? Harsh?! Look at what he's done. Claus, Marten, Rupert! They're all dead because of him!" shouted Jason. The groups' heads sank, remembering their friends, and the day Kaymen shot them all down with just three blows.
"If you think I'm wasting time on killing someone like that, then get out of my sight." said Jason, pointing to the doorway. Benjamin looked up at Jason.
"No," he said, standing up. "Death to Kaymen!" he said.
And then everyone stood, shouted: "Hiel Hitler!" and saluted.
"So, now all we do is wait." said Mathis. Gerd (the muscular man), Lukas, and Benjamin all chuckled together. Jason withdrew the pipe from his mouth.
"It shouldn't be very long."
